The estate was built in 1915, and a rich history is hidden beneath its new thatched roof and facade with wooden shutters, stained glass, and the distinctive bay window on the corner. In the 1950s, it was sold to the municipality and restored as a town hall. The commemorative stone for the inauguration of Wilhelmina (September 15, 1898) was moved from the then town hall on Dorpsstraat to the country house 'Oost-Vegt', the name of the current villa.

The spacious building has had a residential destination for about 3 decades. The property was renovated in 2007. The fireplace, original doors, and stained glass immediately create a pleasant, authentic atmosphere. Although the village has only about 1,500 inhabitants, basic amenities (restaurant, supermarket, community center) are available, and it is one of the most active in the region: a center for many cultural and social activities, from renowned music festivals to the celebration of a resounding King's Week. The location on the Vecht and the Amsterdam-Rijnkanaal is well accessible for cyclists and pedestrians, thanks to the Liniebrug and the ferry across the Vecht. Drivers follow the route along the canal to reach the highways towards Utrecht and Amsterdam via Weesp or Loenen.
